Colorado Springs is located approximately one hour south of Denver; the northern neighborhoods of "The Springs" are only thirty minutes south of the southern-most areas of Denver. Colorado Springs lies predominately in El Paso County and also includes part of Teller and Douglas Counties. Often times, Monument, Palmer Lake, Falcon, Peyton, Calhan, Ellicott, Widefield, Security, Fountain, Manitou Springs, Black Forest and Woodland Park are considered part of Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs is located at the foot of Pike's Peak and the western side of the city is bordered by both the Pike National Forest and the Rampart Range. The official elevation of Colorado Springs is listed as 6,035 feet, however, the northern part of the city are closer to 7,000 feet. As one heads south toward Pueblo, the elevation drops steadily .
Colorado Springs' climate is mild and semi-arid, with less than 16 inches of precipitation annually, mostly in the form of rain. Summer often brings highs in the 80's, afternoon thunderstorms, and lows in the 50's as night falls. We are blessed with over 250 days of sunshine annually. While snow does fall sporadically, the average season brings only 45 inches, most of which melts quickly in warm sun. Winter forecasts generally call for highs in the 40's and 50's.
